A Family Legacy, 70 Years in the Making
Starting with one small truck in San Francisco back in 1946, three generations have stayed committed to serving freshly prepared meals.
Our story began in 1946, when Russ Upton founded Upton’s in
San Francisco. What started as a neighborhood restaurant and catering business soon grew to include cafeteria services for local private schools.
In the 1970s, Jim and Linda King — Russ’s niece and her husband — carried on the family tradition, continuing to serve wholesome, kid-friendly lunches to a larger number of San Francisco private schools.
Today, their son Dennis King continues that legacy with SchoolFoodies, a modern school-lunch delivery service built on
the same values of freshness and reliability — every school day.

After growing up in the family business, Dennis founded SchoolFoodies in 2006 after recognizing how limited and uninspiring school lunch options were for kids. As a third-generation food service professional with a passion for healthy eating, he set out to create a program that schools could be proud to offer and parents could feel good about.
Today, Dennis continues to lead SchoolFoodies with the same personal commitment that started it all — ensuring every
meal is fresh, every tray sustainable, and every relationship
built on trust.
